Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

...about our Rabenhorst juices

Why does it say "for children aged 4 and over" on our beetroot juice?

As a tuber vegetable, beetroot contains a relatively high amount of nitrate. High concentrations of nitrate can be dangerous for babies and very young children as the enzymes needed to turn nitrate "harmless" have not yet developed the same capacity as in adults. A special note on our labels points out to this fact.

In addition to this, we also make sure that the nitrate levels in the beetroot produce that we process is not too high. There are no fixed restrictions for nitrate in vegetables or vegetable juices in Germany, only recommendations. For beetroot the recommended value of 3000mg/kg should not be exceeded.

The value for our beetroot juice is always well below this recommended value.
